Don’t Think We Don’t Notice, McDonalds – You’re Cheap with Barbeque Sauce and Ketchup

I’m not a McDonalds fan.  I only eat there when I’m hard up on time and a better alternative.  Luckily for McDonalds, when I’m at school, I get put in such a position every month or so.  Notice I mentioned nothing about value or saving money.  With inflation and a desire for more profit, McDonalds is as expensive as anywhere else.

The other day I went to get a 10 piece Chicken McNuggets which comes to about $5, but I noticed they have their 50 piece Chicken McNugget for $10 right now.  Being a value based person, paying 2x as much for 5x the chicken nuggets was a deal I couldn’t pass up.  I figured I could dole out the rest to friends at school.

Here’s the interesting part: when you order 10 chicken mcnuggets, they give you a ration of two barbeque sauces.  When you order 50, they give you a ration of six barbeque or barbecue sauces (however you spell it).  See what happened here?  They got really cheap and instead of carrying out the prorated amount of barbecue sauces, they only give you a fraction.  According to the amount of sauces for 1 10 piece, I should get 12 barbeque sauces, but they sliced that in half for the 50 – hoping that you won’t notice or care to ask for more because you already have 6.

First of all, let me say I know where McD’s is coming from.  They can’t just give barbecue sauce or to a lesser degree ketchup away for free.  People will take too much advantage of this as I’m sure they have in the past.  People will be asking for more just to take home or more innocently because they think they need it – only to throw it away.    Over the aggregate, this amounts to a huge loss of profit for McDonalds.  So it’s understandable that they want to come to terms with how much sauce – be it hot mustard, ketchup, or BBQ is complementary.

My problem is the reduction in amount given simply because I ordered the 50 piece and thinking they can get away with it.  Sorry McDonalds, you can’t.  I noticed and I’m calling you out on it.  Not that I’m interested in any crusade because I really don’t care for your food product.  I’m only mentioning it because I thought it was deceptive and cheap of McDonalds.  From what I’ve read they charge anywhere up to 50 cents extra for sauces outside of the rationing zone so the fact they try to cut back when you order more is when they cross the line.

I’m not sure how many they give out for a 20 piece.
