First, you have got to have a grand Christmas tree fully decorated with all sorts of neat and cute Christmas ornaments. Surround your tree with beautifully wrapped Christmas presents and put this in a corner of the living room. A Christmas tree with Christmas presents underneath sets a great tone for the rest of your home.

Second, if you don’t have carpet, bring out the Christmas rugs or at least stylish, rich colored area rugs to help promote a sense of warmth and richness. To go along with warmth and richness, start a fire in the fireplace if you have one. There’s nothing like having a warm, roasting fire while it’s cold outside.

Third, indulge in 4 or 5 family movie nights where you all gather round to watch movies. They don’t have to be Christmas movies since we’ve probably seen all the good ones, but just get a few really good movies and enjoy watching them together on the couch with a warm sherpa blanket and hot chocolate. Movies I recommend for watching at Christmas include Inception on DVD (it’s just been released), Dark Knight (latest Batman movie), Sherlock Holmes, and I Am Legend.  That’s all I can think of off the top of my head.

Fourth, keep the heavy smell of coffee and hot chocolate constant in your home.  For the holidays, I think having your home smell like Barnes and Noble with that faint twist of Starbucks coffee is perfect for creating a scented Christmas atmosphere.  I’m not even a coffee person, but I like the smell of coffee.  I am a hot chocolate person and it has a great scent as well so you could always do either, or, or both.  You definitely do need a hot beverage though for creating the Christmas setting in your house.

Fifth, put Christmas string lights lining different areas and textures such as across your mantle  and on the countertops.  Against the darkness of lights off, these illuminate and alternate perfectly to give a beautiful Christmas light show inside your home.  Of course, you also have to have Christmas lights blinking outside the home.  Christmas lights on a home are a must to get everyone in the Christmas spirit.

Sixth, if you don’t have a small indoor puppy or dog, get one.  Dogs are wonderful to have inside the home (if you are a dog person I guess).  A cute new puppy for Christmas gives you a new family member that you can relax with, play with, and share with every one.

Seventh, don’t forget to invite friends and extended family members over for Christmas.  The more people, the merrier so have your friends and family over and let them enjoy and enhance the Christmas atmosphere in your home.
